My new PROXXON scroll saw DS 460 is a very solidly designed and manufactured machine that, in my opinion, can compete with a Hegner fine-cutting saw like the one I used to have at my employer's disposal! But ultimately I wouldn't have earned the suffix "tinkerer" if I hadn't come up with at least one tiny improvement:
An extraction funnel for the saw dust attached below the saw blade ensures pleasantly low-dust workshop air when working with the PROXXON DS460 scroll saw. The "catch" is that if the saw blade breaks - hopefully only after a long period of trouble-free work (!) - the lower "sliding stone" - this is what the manufacturer calls the loose tension clamps that are needed to hold fine saw blades that do not have cross pins - thrown into the suction channel and usually pulled into the vacuum cleaner by the air suction.
Anyone who has often had to cut open a dust bag and rummage through the contents for the missing sliding block will appreciate this tip: A small but powerful neodymium magnet (fixed permanently to the underside of the sliding block with a drop of "screwlock" or superglue) holds it in place position without restricting its mobility to such an extent that undesirable bending forces arise on the saw blade.
