If you invest in a foot switch with an adapter plug, you will always have both hands free to precisely guide the workpiece - for example when working on the scroll saw. This saves time and many broken saw blades, especially when working with numerous breakthroughs! The only annoying thing is that affordable models with lightweight plastic housings are often accidentally moved with your foot when you try to operate them without taking your eyes off the work surface. An additional stable structure prevents accidental operation (missteps, falling parts). The higher weight prevents the switch from being accidentally pushed away. Additional strain relief and kink protection for the cable increase safety even under somewhat harsh workshop conditions. 120mm long spacer columns offer enough foot space for comfortable and safe shifting. The plate size is 300mm x 200mm.
My conversion consists of a base plate with four non-slip rubber feet and a cover plate with a non-slip rubber mat as a support, connected by four spacer columns. Although this in-house design will still not be able to meet all the criteria that must be met by certified safety foot switches from the professional sector, the improvement is significant compared to the effort! To ensure that the intended improvement does not turn into a worsening improvement, the following must be observed: Use double-sided adhesive pads to attach the switch to the base plate! Screwing additional screws into the switch housing would nullify the protective measures taken by the manufacturer against touching live parts! Mark the support points of the switch feet and, if necessary, other protruding areas of the switch base on the multiplex base plate and leave these areas out accordingly. This gives you a sufficiently large, flat contact surface for the adhesive pads.
You should copy the nameplate printed on the underside of the switch before installation and stick the copy on the underside of the new base plate. Only use the switch to switch consumers (machines) whose nominal power is the same or smaller than that on the nameplate Maximum switching power specified on the switch!
The foot switch 250 V/AC 6 A, 1 pedal, 1 closer, Marquardt 2410.0301 has a sturdy thermoplastic housing. The safest option is to buy the switch already assembled with a connection cable and plug (e.g. the foot switch for the “Hegner” fine-cutting saw).
