misc. Projects
I store the content of this website in a database. I charge my cell phone on the go using a power bank. My money earns negative interest at a bank branch. I recently started owning a pretty garden bench.
Harvesting ears of corn, stubbling potatoes, twisting turnips... I always had very dirty shoes after such field work! That's why there were robust doormats in front of the house entrances, which were usually made by the farmers themselves during the long winter months. Such childhood memories came back to life during a tour of an open-air museum in the Rhön when I stumbled across this somewhat weathered wooden doormat. I'm going to make one of these too! As a precaution, take a photo as a “reminder”. Are you actually allowed to take photos here? - Luckily no one saw it!
Since I can't know whether our family will have three grandchildren forever, I was happy to follow organ builder Cornelia Grübele's suggestion (can be read in HolzWerken 84 January/February 2020) and made a dozen whistles from a long strip . Unfortunately, the idea of having a few gifts in stock didn't work out: the pipes sold like hotcakes!
Make us a board game again!” asks my long-grown daughter Sabine. “Why always me?” I ask, looking at the numerous unfinished projects that are waiting to be completed. “Yes, - WHY ALWAYS ME? - you could make one for us, we used to play that." I can also remember a game with this name and the simple rules: The wooden sticks are distributed to all players. One player after the other rolls the dice. If the slot with the number rolled is still free, you can insert a stick into it. However, if the slot is already occupied, you have to pick up the stick and are not allowed to roll the dice any further. It's your turn to roll the dice at least once, but you can roll dice as long as you can put down sticks, but the risk increases the more places are already occupied. Anyone who rolls a six is lucky because this slot has a through hole and the stick disappears into the collection container until the next game. The first person to run out of chopsticks is the winner!
People seeking advice have often turned to me. But this time Carsten appears to be looking for a wheel: “Can you please turn me a Solowheel model?” - I don't want to admit that I don't know what he means by "Solowheel", so I'll spontaneously say yes.
Of course, you can't really dive with compressed air bottles made of wood and cardboard! But then what good are they supposed to be? - To answer this question, we have to delve deeper into the fascinating world of scuba divers:
Putting every thing in its place saves a lot of time and some nasty sentences!
During my passionate involvement with wood as a material, I accumulated a whole series of notes, photos and sketches with clever ideas, practical tips and useful tricks. Some of them literally "came to me", for others I had to pay "tuition fees". It would be a shame if these experiences were forgotten! A website like this is probably a worthy container for storing such knowledge in a well-structured manner and presenting it to interested visitors in a pleasant way. Enjoy browsing!
In addition to knowledge and experience, model building has also accumulated a wide range of fittings, candle sockets, glass eyes, money box locks and similar rarities. The small parts shelf with its 55 drawers is a real help in keeping things tidy! I was also able to dispose of the yellowed cardboard box in which I once stored the colorful wooden patterns that now form the front panels of the individual drawers! - Even more order!
Admittedly, I have fortunately not yet been a witness or even a victim of a house fire caused by an unattended Christmas pyramid! But the matter is not without danger! Friends and acquaintances have often asked me to send charred wooden parts of their - oh so valuable! - Replace Christmas decorations. I not only thought about how to restore the things entrusted to me to their old/new splendor, but also whether and how I can increase security:
